Books for Prisioners Project Feedback from some initial experiments with placing this type of material into prisons has been very positive, both from prisoner recipients and from those individuals in administrative positions involved with making this type of material available to the inmates. Suns hope is that these types of books will be made available to all prisoners who have an interest in self-improvement. They further hope, and sincerely believe, that the dissemination of this type of material to prison inmates will help to cut down on recidivism (the tendency of released inmates to commit new crimes and be returned to the prison system). Sun also believes that, if, by making this material available to the inmates, they can help in some small way to prevent a future loss of life, through the reform of inmate thinking, then it will have been well worth all of the efforts and expense that it takes to get this type of material into the various prisons and jails around the state, and even into penal institutions in other states. Anyone interested in helping with this project in some meaningful way is requested to contact The Sun Companies by calling 505-747-0589 (mornings), or by writing to PO Box 5588, Santa Fe, NM 87502-5588, or by sending an e-mail to: info@sunbooks.co Los Alamos Farmer's Market Mesa Library East Parking Lot New Time 8 a.m. - 1 p. m. Museum of the History of Communications in the Southwest From the early use of petroglyphs and smoke signals, through written correspondence, newspapers, books, telegraphed messages, the telephone, radio, television, the internet, etc., people have used many different means to communicate their ideas, feelings, news, and important messages over the centuries. It has long been felt, by some members of this community, that there should be some sort of institution dedicated to the preservation of the history of the various ways in which people have communicated with one another since the beginning of human habitation in the Southwestern part of the United States. To this end, I would like to propose the establishment of the Museum of the History of Communications in the Southwest. I believe that this sort of institution would not only help to preserve a record of the various ways in which humans have communicated over the centuries, but would also serve as a focal point, or destination, for various students of the communicative arts from all over the United States (and perhaps other countries as well). This museum would be yet one more way for north central New Mexico to bring in some tourist dollars while at the same time doing something truly important: preserving a major part of our Southwestern history. Any feed back on this proposal would be appreciated. You can reach me by sending e-mail to: info@sunbooks.com or by calling: 505-747-0589 most mornings. ---Skip Whitson, Director, The Sun Companies, PO Box 5588, Santa Fe, NM 87502-5588.
